At the Annual Council Meeting on May 8th, Councillor Mark Wilson was re-elected as Parish Council Chairman for 2018/19, Cllr Wilson will be taking on extra responsibility for getting the Allotment Association up and running (along with the Parish Clerk) as well as coordinating the bus shelter project on Bath road. At the same meeting Roland Kelly was appointed to the Councils Planning and Development Portfolio, this makes him responsible for coordinating the Councils response to all tree and planning applications made to Mendip District Council. Councillor Kevin Bishop was appointed to the Highways & Transport Portfolio and Councillor Liz Wright as the Councils Rep to Rudge, as well as the Footpaths and Rights of way rep. Councillor Clive Winterbourne will continue to look after the Environment Portfolio. Clive has become a familiar sight within the Village, driving around in his tractor often voluntarily helping to cut back bits of overgrown hedge or grass, he is also responsible for the temporary dog mess bins that have popped up all over the Parish and the emptying of the same.
Last Call for Allotments:
The Parish Council has yet to take ownership of the land that will be used for allotments on the David Wilson Homes site. But, in preparation for the handover the Parish Council will randomly select some Residents to form into an association, they will then take on the preparation of the land ready for a full growing year in 2019. This is your last opportunity to put your name in the hat for a chance to become part of this group of Residents that form the association. You need to email the Clerk before the 1st of July with your name and address. A meeting will then be called in July inviting all interested residents whose names are in the hat. At this meeting the association will be formed. Email: beckingtonparishcouncil@outlook.com
