Information and Documentation

Local Heritage List

Local Heritage List: a new project to record heritage assets in Somerset and Exmoor. This is managed by the South West Heritage Trust with input from partners in local government and heritage, including Somerset County Council, each district council, and Exmoor National Park Authority.

The scheme will give special, ‘locally listed' status to distinctive and noteworthy buildings, sites, and monuments across Somerset and Exmoor. It is a chance to recognise places with cultural value in our area, and help preserve our diverse local heritage.

Allotments in Beckington:

The Parish Council has gained some land at the end of the David Wilson Homes development (Shepards Way) to turn into allotment gardens.

In early 2019 a few appeals were made by the Parish Council for volunteers who wanted an allotment to come forward and do all the groundwork to set up the plots and form an Allotment Association.

Throughout 2019 this group of volunteers met, formed into a formal group, carried out many days of work mapping out and dividing up the land and drafting out legal agreements with the Parish Council ready for the day when the land is transferred over to the Parish Council.

During 2020, the land was still in the ownership of David Wilson Homes, so it wasn't possible to formally rent out plots to anyone. However, David Wilson Homes gave permission for the volunteers who have been involved from the beginning to cultivate their plots.

In early 2021 the land was finally transferred into the Parish Council's ownership and the waiting list opened.
